Multifaith Monday 10/6/14

Welcome to Multifaith Monday! It was a busy weekend for various faith traditions! Last Friday evening, I attended the Kol Nidre service for Yom Kippur at Congregation Beth Ha-Tephila, the Reformed synagogue here in Asheville. Eid al-Adha, the Muslim holiday honoring Abraham’s willingness to sacrifice his son, was also held over the weekend. In that tradition, Abraham (Ibrahim) is asked to sacrifice Ishmael, the son of Hagar, rather than Isaac. Our Hindu friends completed their 9-nine festival, Sharad Navratri, which honors the goddess Durga. And, the 2014 Hajj is also coming to a close.

Here are my top 5 picks for news stories from the last week. I did not include links related to the Bill Maher controversy. Both Ben Affleck and Reza Aslan tried to counter his claims last week, but it’s a bit of a mess. Feel free to “google” any of those names if you’re interested in staying up to date on it.
